NICOSIA – Former prison director Panicos Kyriacou has suggested a prisoner may be connected with the theft of the remains of former president Tassos Papadopoulos.
Kyriacou said that during his term as director he received information that the lifer had plotted to steal the body of former president Spyros Kyprianou.
The former prison director said he did not report it to the police at the time as the plot seemed too far fetched to be true.
Following the theft of Papadopoulos’ remains, Kyriacou contacted the chief of police and briefed him on the details of the case.
