NICOSIA – DISY and Turkish Cypriot Turkish Republican Party (CTP) held a meeting Wednesday during which they discussed latest developments regarding the Cyprus problem. The meeting was held at the DISY headquarters in Nicosia. DISY leader Nicos Anastasiades and CTP leader Ferdi Sabit Soyer expressed their common wish for a Cyprus solution, that would meet the expectations of the people of Cyprus. They also expressed their wish for a solution based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality as defined in the relevant UN resolutions, with one international personality, one sovereignty and one citizenship. Anastasiades said that the delegations of the parties agreed to continue supporting the leaders of the two communities of Cyprus, President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, and encourage them to work even harder so that a solution is reached the soonest possible. He also announced that Thursday, a DISY delegation will cross over to the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus to hold a meeting with leader of the Party of National Unity, Dervis Eroglu. DISY leader added he would also meet Talat in London on Sunday. In his statements, Soyer said that DISY and CTP want to see the solution of the Cyprus problem as soon as possible. “We support a solution based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation and we support the two leaders in their efforts to reach a functional solution”, he said.
