NICOSIA - A 30-year old woman standing trial for the murder of her younger sister Elli, tried to kill herself inside the Nicosia Central Prison on Tuesday.
According to prison sources, Eftychia Zari swallowed a glass full of chlorine, which she obtained from a cleaning lady on the pretense she needed to clean her cell.
She sustained injuries to her oesophagus and stomach and is now being treated in intensive care at the Nicosia General Hospital.
She was due to appear at today’s hearing in the Nicosia Criminal Court during which her other sibling was to give testimony. Zari is said to have killed Elli with a shotgun.
