NICOSIA -President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat held their 35th meeting as part of their UN-brokered  direct negotiations to reach a settlement to the Cyprus question and reunify the island.

The two rival leaders concluded their first exchange of views on territory and agreed to begin discussions on security during their next meeting, set for Thursday, July 9.

After the meeting, the special representative of the UN Secretary General Taye-Brook Zerihoun said the two leaders had a tete-a-tete covering a broad spectrum of issues for one and half hours.

They also discussed progress made on the issue of their agreement to open the Limnitis-kokkina checkpoint, to ease movement between the two sides.

Christofias and Talat are engaged in direct negotiations on the Cyprus issue since September last year.
