NYON - Europe’s governing body for football (UEFA) have retracted charges against APOEL relating to Greek flags that were waved during the Nicosia club’s Champions League game against Porto last week.The move by UEFA to charge APOEL created a political storm on the island prompting UEFA Vice Chairman Marios Lefkaritis and Cyprus Football Association (CFA) Chairman Costakis Koutsokoumnis to intervene.An announcement by the CFA on Wednesday stated that no charges would be brought against APOEL for the waving of the Greek flags.APOEL were also charged with improper behaviour of their fans who threw bottles onto the pitch several times. The club has already pleaded guilty to those charges and is expected to be penalised on Thursday.On Tuesday, APOEL were also fined 40,000 euros after some fans made racist chants against a reporter on the sidelines during the APOEL - Chelsea match.
