LIMASSOL- A European Commission revised guideline approving tonnage tax is acknowledgement of Cyprus’s expertise in shipping and in particular ship management, Cyprus’s shipping officials said.
The director of the Department of Merchant Shipping (DMS), Serghios Serhiou said that the Commission communication means that both DMS and the private sector have presented convincing arguments which prove that the island’s specialised activity in ship management constitutes an advantage, not only for Cyprus but also for the EU, enhancing the competitiveness of the European merchant shipping fleet.
The EU communication is a guarantee for further consolidating the ship management industry in Cyprus, Serrghiou said.
